Swimming

On Saturday 9th June Beckenham Swimming Club took part in the first round of the Kent Junior League. They competed against 5 other clubs and came second to Sevenoaks by a tiny 6 points (the third team were nearly 100 points behind them) it was great swimming all round. Five pupils from Balgowan took part; Alex from Yr 6 and Louise, Isabelle, Olivia and Ted all from 5EC. It was a brilliant, noisy, fun night. Well done all!

Cricket

Earlier this month, Balgowan took 2 teams to the Bromley Schools Cricket Competitions held locally in the borough. On Tuesday 5th June, it was the turn of the girls. They played very well together and improved as the day went on, and went on to finish the competition in 3rd place out of 24 teams – well done girls: Rihanna, Hannah, Claudia, Isobel, Issy, Louise, Nell and Monica. On Thursday 7th June, it was the boys turn. Up against some tough opposing teams the boys played amazingly well as a team and discussed strategies to help them in their games. They finished 2nd in their group – well done boys: Johnny, Archie, Myles, Ed, Toby, Ben, Duncan and James.

‘There is a sunflower in my supper’

Year 1 show ‘There is a sunflower in my supper’ was a big success. The choice of play script was just perfect for Year 1 children. Dressed in wonderful costumes, all the children had a chance to shine on stage either signing, acting, dancing or playing   musical instruments. Well done to Year1!

Eco Schools Silver

On 12th May 2013 we successfully achieved the Eco Schools Silver Award. The Silver Award criteria focused on strengthening pupil leadership and whole school involvement while the school started to work on at least one of the Eco-Schools topics in depth. There is evidence that the school grounds have been improved, recycling and waste are being audited and improvement plans are in place, energy is monitored regularly and involvement in the EDF Energy ‘The Pod’ Switch-off Fortnight has raised awareness of reducing energy consumption by turning off lights and equipment when not in use. We have also achieved RHS Campaign for School Gardening Level 1 and Level 2 Benchmarking Certificates, EDF Energy The Pod Bronze medal (2012) and Silver Medal
