Calling all Business Mentors—Business Enterprise Project

Next half term, Balgowan pupils will be participating in an exciting business enterprise project. Each class from Year R-5 will design a product or service, pitch to the Bank of Balgowan for a loan and sell their product or service on Friday 12th July at a Gala Day (Reception products will be on sale at the Reception Sports Day.) Through this venture we aim to develop pupils’ enterprise skills whilst promoting the school values. Year 6 pupils will have a special role, acting as ‘business advisers’ and will be allocated to other classes in order to support the younger children. ? There will be two winning classes:

  1. The class with the greatest profit
  2. The class who have applied the school values ‘over and above’. Relevant values include: resilience, patience, unity, acceptance, perseverance, respect, equality, positivity, responsibility.

The profits for these two winning classes can be spent on what each individual class decides. All profits from the other classes will go to resourcing the wider school curriculum including science, history, geography and RE.

To broaden pupils understanding of the business world and perhaps even receive some advice on their class product or service, we would welcome support from ‘business mentors’. A business mentor can be anyone with a business background in the local community who is willing to come into school and talk to a class about their business/business background and answer pupil questions. If you are able to help with the project between Monday 17/6/19 and Friday 28/6/19, please email the school office by Friday 7th June with suggested dates and times. Mr Hines will then contact you and provide further information. If you know a potential business mentor, please pass this information on to them.

Those of you who were Balgowan parents/carers in 2013 will remember that we ran a similar project which resulted in a lasting, memorable experience for the pupils and involvement across the wider school community. Thank you in advance for your support in making the Business Enterprise Project 2019 a great success.   Mr P Hines—Deputy Headteacher
