Celebrating excellence in basic skills.

Following a rigorous assessment on 20th January I am delighted that the prestigious Primary Quality Mark in Basic Skills, which was first awarded to Balgowan in 2007 has been renewed for a further three years.

The Primary Quality Mark is awarded to Primary Schools by the Alliance for Lifelong Learning for work in improving skills in literacy and numeracy. It is intended to provide a framework for the continuous improvement of the basic skills of all pupils in a school.

Angela Taylor, the assessor, praised Balgowan for its success in raising standards in literacy and numeracy. She wrote: I did enjoy meeting the teachers, pupils and your Chair of Governors – they were all well versed in the Quality Mark award and were able to support your application fully. I noted there had been considerable development since the last award.

Pupils make very good progress at our school and the award recognises this. I would like to thank all members of staff for their hard work and expertise in teaching the children so well.
