Korfball Championship

My Day at The Copperbox – Playing in the U11’s Schools National Korfball Finals

One thousand children from 57 schools across the country took part in the National Schools Korfball Championship. The top 8 schools including Balgowan (Jacob 4SJ, Amelie 5EC, Tom 6WS, Lewis 6CR, Emi 6CR, Bryony 6CR, Bella 6CR, Jasper 6WS and Jude 6AC) all competed in the finals at the Copperbox, in the   Olympic Park on Saturday 12th May.

We arrived at The Copperbox and met with our coaches Natalie Moore and Bill Berry from Bromley Korfball Club. It was amazing to be at such a famous venue but a bit daunting as there were lots of people there. We got to run onto the courts in front of a crowd of 100’s as they announced all the schools in the final. I felt nervous and excited before we started playing. Our 1st game was against Moorside, a school from Lancaster, the whole team played brilliantly and we won 8-3. The next game was against Bradwell Village School from Milton Keynes. We led for most of the game but in the last few minutes they scored 2 goals to take them ahead 5-4. Amazingly Lewis scored a last second goal to draw the match. Sadly though we lost the game on penalties. Our 3rd game was against Hayes Primary which we won 3-2 to come 3rd overall in the country! We then watched some of the Senior game before coming back out to be presented with our medals. It was an amazing experience to be a part of and one I will never forget. Jacob Reimers 4SJ
