Temporary additional reception class implementation update
In addition to the established single class setting, this term the EYFS staff have planned and taught:
- Daily whole year group outdoor learning
- Different learning opportunities in each classroom with children choosing which classroom or the outside learning area they would like to learn in.
Feedback both from EYFS staff and Reception pupils is very positive.
The school has studied the timetables and has identified the changes that will need to be made from September 2014. There is space for gym, outside PE, music and the field. The new timetables will be fully implemented from September 2014.
Since September the current Reception classes have had their morning break at a different time from Key Stage 1 classes thereby reducing numbers on the Key Stage 1 playground.
Reducing furniture and other items in the Reception/Year 1 corridor is underway and will be completed before the new children enter the school.
ICT: Procurement, Provision and curriculum
Just before half term 64 laptops and portable storage/charging units were ordered after seeking several quotations for the same specification. The laptops have now arrived and are currently being trialled in school with pupils. The January training day has been set aside for ICT training, which will enable staff to use the sets of laptops around the school and improve ICT provision for the pupils. Those pupils who have used the laptops have been very enthusiastic about using them on our powerful wireless network.
Management of pupils
The school has studied the management of the children entering and leaving the building, the collection of coats and bags and changes will be fully implemented from September 2014. Since September 2013 the current Reception classes have had their morning break at a different time from Key Stage 1 classes which has reduced the numbers of children using the Key Stage 1 corridor at morning break.
Four very well attended open mornings took place in October and November and prospective parents were informed about the additional Reception class.
