Young Voices Concert at the 02

On Monday 27th January a group of 86 children from Years 5 and 6 travelled to the O2 Arena for the Young Voices concert. After months of practising, the children finally got the opportunity to be part of a massed choir of 7,500 children performing a wide range of songs, from One Direction through to old English folk songs via Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the Hallelujah Chorus!

An afternoon rehearsal was followed by an evening concert to a packed Arena of parents and carers, who were dazzled by the singing of the choir and then reciprocated with some impressive (if a little rusty) dance moves during a hip-hop medley! The choir’s items were supplemented by performances by Stacey Solomon, Wayne Ellington, Urban Strides and Keith Semple (formally of One True Voice, for anyone who remembers ‘Popstars – The Rivals’).

This was truly an incredible experience for all involved, one which will live long in the memory and which has inspired so many of the children in the school. All the children were a credit to the school in how they acted throughout, right up to our 10.30pm return to school.

Many thanks are due to the eleven members of staff who gave up their evenings in order to accompany the children (plus several others who worked wonders behind the scenes), and also to the PTA whose kind subsidising of the coach travel costs meant that all children could take part in the concert without having to pay for the privilege.
