Eco News (4/1/2015) - Thank you to everyone who brought their Christmas Cards to school in January. We had over 5,000 this year and we donated them to Marks & Spencer in Beckenham. By recycling cards via the Marks & Spencer Recycling Scheme we have helped turn unwanted waste into much needed trees. These will be planted by the Woodland Trust, who have been planting, restoring and protecting woodland for over 40 years. You may have noticed lots of new additions to the School Garden as you walk past. Thanks to Sainsbury’s Beckenham Community Project we now have a garden shed with storage facilities, seating and a potting bench. These items have really enhanced the school garden and we hope pupils will be able

New Afterschool Gardening Club (9/6/2013) - Due to the recent success of gardening within the Eco Schools programme children will now have the opportunity to attend an after school gardening club. During sessions children will learn how to use gardening tools correctly. They will also learn how to sow seeds, plant bulbs, take cuttings and how to nurture a wide variety of plants, herbs and vegetables which they will grow themselves. Children will also gain an understanding of how humans can reduce their impact on the environment by learning about composting and by participating in activities to encourage wildlife into the garden. Children will have the opportunity to be creative, e.g. making bird feeders and designing and making a seed packet. They will also be able
Eco Schools Silver (6/4/2013) - On 12th May 2013 we successfully achieved the Eco Schools Silver Award. The Silver Award criteria focused on strengthening pupil leadership and whole school involvement while the school started to work on at least one of the Eco-Schools topics in depth. There is evidence that the school grounds have been improved, recycling and waste are being audited and improvement plans are in place, energy is monitored regularly and involvement in the EDF Energy ‘The Pod’ Switch-off Fortnight has raised awareness of reducing energy consumption by turning off lights and equipment when not in use. We have also achieved RHS Campaign for School Gardening Level 1 and Level 2 Benchmarking Certificates, EDF Energy The Pod Bronze medal (2012) and Silver Medal
All about Eco Schools (1/4/2013) - In February 2012 the Eco Schools committee was formed and an environmental review (audit) was carried out. There are nine topics for Eco Schools. The Eco Schools website has lots of information. Tina Brabham leads and co-ordinates the Eco Schools committee. Since forming in 2012, the full committee meets once a term to compile their Action Plan. This is very much focused on being pupil led. Pupils meet every Friday lunchtime to carry out the work. The Eco Warriors have worked hard to try and make sustainability an integral part of school life. They’ve covered lots of topics since starting last year and have mainly focused on recycling, energy, waste, litter, school grounds and biodiversity. As a school we already participate in programmes under
