News and Updates

Amazing Athletics (3/10/2017) - Amazing Athletics! Langley Boys hosted this year’s Bromley Indoor Athletics Championship. 22 schools took part in the competition. Nine boys and 10 girls represented the Balgowan on the day. The events were split into two categories; track and field. The track events consisted of relay races and sprints. The field events consisted of the chest push, long jump, speed bounce and vertical jump. Notably Charlotte Lambert threw 7.5m, which was the biggest of the day in the girls section. Balgowan ended up finishing in a strong 4th position. Another great achievement. The eventual winners were Harris Crystal Palace.
Tag Rugby Champions 2016-2017 (3/10/2017) - Tag Rugby: On Tuesday 21st February, Balgowan took three teams to the Bromley Schools’ Tag Rugby Competition – alongside 37 other teams. Each team was drawn into a different group and played four games each. Every team played in the qualifier. The ‘C team’ were undefeated. They won two games and drew two games. They played against Crofton, Pickhurst, Valley and Bickley. Their defence line was very effective which helped them a lot. The ‘B team’ won two, drew one and, sadly, lost one game. Their defence line proved helpful; however, it failed on their last game – resulting in loss. On the positive, they did score some very sneaky tries. The ‘A team’ were definitely the most successful. They
Dutch Visit – Korfball (3/10/2017) - On Friday 24th February, Balgowan welcomed the U17 Netherlands World Champion Korfball Team. Balgowan has a strong link with Bromley Korfball, led by Bill Berry and this is the third year that Netherlands have visited. Year 3 and Bill’s Korfball Club were lucky enough to spend a short time being coached by the magnificent Dutch team.
Balgowan Girls’ Football Victory (2/10/2017) - Spring League Game 1 – Victory against Claire House! On a cold and rainy Friday, the Balgowan girls’ football team arrived at Claire House to play on their brand-new astro pitches (so jealous!). However, the rain couldn’t dampen our spirits. Minutes into the game, Emily Taylor scored from outside the box so we were 1-0 up. Balgowan had most of the possession, passing and dribbling quickly and precisely. It wasn’t long until Florence Monks scored another goal in quick succession, leaving us 2-0 up. The other team put up some good defence, with several headers to clear the ball. After some close misses from Zara Driscoll, Emily scored again – taking the score to 3-0 for half time. Claire House

Balgowan V Raglan (12/9/2016) - Balgowan Vs Raglan On Wednesday 9th November 2016, Balgowan played a football match against Raglan. This was held at The Annex with a 3:45 pm kick off. In the starting eleven were Freddie Fletcher ( C ), Max Farrell, Thomas Adams, Lewis Court, Jaspar Brooks, Arthur Widdowson, Adam Gass, Arthur Starvis, Isiah Royal, Jake Dando, Theo Hillier-Taylor and Alex Hillier-Taylor. After a stressful first half with no goals, Balgowan were disappointed they hadn’t scored but kept their heads up. Even though they didn’t score, they were on top for the entire first half and hoped to continue this into the second half. After a 5-minute half time break, they had a team talk and agreed they would try their best
School Games Update (10/14/2016) - Balgowan has been awarded to the ‘gold mark’ for our achievement in sport for 2015-16.  Well done to all the children and staff at Balgowan for making this possible.
Autumn Term 2016 Football News (10/14/2016) - Great Start for the Balgowan Girls’ Football Team The autumn league challenge has started for the girls and they had a resounding 8-1 victory against Southborough Primary School.  A hat trick from Bryony, two from Eleanor, and a goal each by Emily and Florence (the other an own goal) saw the team start their campaign with a win.  Mr Coulson was very impressed with team’s determination and attacking qualities. The girls took their form into the district preliminary knockouts. After a slow start, they beat Alexandra Junior School 1-0 with a low free kick from Zara.  The momentum carried on through the tournament with a 2-0 win over Valley Primary School.  Emily’s skills proved too much for the Valley defence.  After
Quad Kid Champions (7/9/2016) - Sixteen Bromley schools took part in this year’s annual Year 3 and 4 Quad Kids. Last year Balgowan won silver and this year were hoping to go one better. There are four events; 50m sprint, 400m run, standing long jump and a howler throw. The whole team represented Balgowan with a great attitude and an abundance of talent and passion. Following a tense countdown it was announced that Balgowan had won the event. A special well done for Amelie who was the only year 3 to be selected and she had the quickest 50m sprint out of every girl (in every school) that took part. Her time was an amazing 6.70 seconds! All the team were a credit to Balgowan
LYG Tri Golf (7/9/2016) - Having won the Bromley qualifier we were able to represent Bromley at the London Youth Games for the 2nd year running. The team were in great spirits from the get go and during the opening ceremony two of our own (Isabella and Connor) were chosen to go on stage and give the competitors pledge! Both Isabella and Connor spoke beautifully and were a credit to Balgowan and Bromley. Once that was finished it was off to the event and of the potential 33 London boroughs, 28 were represented. Overall a Trigolf challenge consists of 8 different activities for both chipping and putting and each challenge gains points for the team. You are permitted a 2 minute practice prior to your
