Welcome from the Headteacher

I would like to offer you and your family a very warm welcome to Balgowan Primary School.

Balgowan is a happy, inclusive and ambitious three-form entry primary school where every child is known and valued. We are proud of our community and our shared commitment to providing a high-quality education that prepares children well for today and the future. As part of the Nexus Education Schools Trust (NEST), we work in collaboration with other schools to continually strengthen our provision.

Our motto, ‘Be kind, work hard, make friends’, is at the heart of everything we do. It shapes how we treat one another and how we learn and grow together. Our TRIP values (tolerance, resilience, inner drive and positivity) guide us each day, helping children to develop strong character, positive attitudes and a genuine love of learning. We often describe our journey as travelling together on the Balgowan ship, guided by shared values that help children navigate both school life and the wider world. At Balgowan, we develop resilient, independent learners and confident thinkers who reflect on their learning, persevere through challenge and grow in confidence as problem-solvers.

We offer a rich and varied curriculum, enhanced by excellent facilities, including our well-stocked library and dedicated technology lab. Alongside this, we provide a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities. Music and sport have a particularly strong profile, with high-quality teaching and regular opportunities for children to perform and compete, further enriched by the work of our Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

We value strong partnerships with parents and carers and are proud of the relationships across the school. Our friendly and popular Buccaneers Club, run by the school, offers both breakfast and after-school care, supporting Balgowan families.
