On the afternoon of Tuesday 15th November, the school swim team (Elias R, Jesse, Max, Kit, Ayla, Hannah L, Eloise, Beau, Molly, Mia, Nina (Y6), Daniel, Nico, Noah and Claudia (Y5) and Josh and Emily (Y4)) left school and excitedly but nervously walked to the Spa in Beckenham to compete in the Bromley large schools swimming competition against 6 other schools including Hayes and Bromley High. After getting changed, we swam some lengths of the pool to warm up before the races began. The individual races were first. Daniel got Team Balgowan off to an excellent start as he won the boys Freestyle race. Ayla, Eloise, Hannah, Jesse and I swam the other individual races and all
finished well in our races but so did competitors from Bromley High School and Hayes. Next up were the relay races; firstly, the alternate front-crawl and back-stroke relays, where both the boys team and girls team swam well with
the girls coming second in their race. Next was the medley relay; two lengths of front crawl and one length each of backstroke and breaststroke then finally, it was time for the
8x Freestyle race. Balgowan got off to a fantastic start but were over-taken in the middle of the race by Bromley High, we finished strongly but were just beaten into 2nd place.
There then followed a tense wait while all the scores from each of the races were added up. Eventually, the results were announced… Balgowan had won, with a 12 point lead
over Hayes who finished in second place. It was a fantastic afternoon and I’m really pleased I was part of the swimming team, thank you to Miss Burke for taking us.
