International Day and the International Street Food Market
International Day on 27th October, celebrated languages and cultural backgrounds from around the world. Children dressed up representing the country of their choice and parents kindly shared their knowledge and experiences about countries with the classes in school.
The second ‘Balgowan International Street Food Market’ took place on the playground after school, including decorated stands which were displayed with donated dishes (and recipes) from various cultures and heritages. The event allowed our Balgowan community to come together and it was a pleasure to see how many families supported this event. A big thank you to Mrs Steinegger, our MFL lead and Mrs Holderried, our PTA chair, for leading on the organisation of this whole school event. Our thanks go to all parents who donated such delicious food; your culinary skills and efforts were truly appreciated. Thank you to Mr Martin who prepared a Capoeira display allowing us to learn more about Brazilian culture and history. Thank you also to Emeli (6SM) and Evie (3SC) for performing a wonderful traditional Māori song from New Zealand. New this year, was a table displaying international language books available in the school library for children to borrow, so a big thank you goes to our librarian Mrs Abbott, who set up the colourful display. A huge thank you to all the PTA members, staff and parents who contributed to this event in every possible way. It was another memorable event, and even the weather was kind to us!
